Life Coaching

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

~ Mary Oliver

You have one life, and the decisions you make shape the direction it takes. Sometimes the next step is obvious. Other times, you’re standing at a crossroads, weighing competing priorities, questioning your values, or trying to determine which path is most consistent with the person you want to become.

My approach to life coaching is centered on helping you cultivate greater clarity, confidence, personal responsibility, and intentional living. Drawing from philosophy, spirituality, wisdom traditions, and two decades of studying human behavior, I help you think deeply about the choices that shape your life and the consequences that follow them.

You might seek life coaching if you:

  • Are facing a major life transition.

  • Are wrestling with an important decision.

  • Feel pulled between competing priorities or desires.

  • Want greater clarity about your values, identity, or purpose.

  • Are navigating questions about relationships or boundaries.

  • Want to build greater confidence, self trust, or resilience.

  • Desire a more intentional and self directed life.

Together, we explore the questions that matter most and work toward practical, meaningful action. My approach is compassionate, brings levity to the tricky experience of being human, but more than anything brings an accuracy and accountability-focus to help you think clearly about the life you want to create and how to move toward it with conviction.

If this approach resonates with you, I invite you to submit an inquiry through the contact form with a brief description of what you hope to explore.

Important Disclaimer: I am no longer licensed behavioral health provider and do not offer psychotherapy, counseling, psychological assessment, diagnosis, or mental health treatment.

Life Coaching vs Licensed Counseling

For many years, I worked in behavioral health and I loved the work. Stepping away from a licensed counseling role was not an easy decision. I went through a grieving process. At the same time, I had a dream that had been with me since I was a teenager, to live nomadically, to build tiny homes on wheels, and to spend my life immersed in nature.

Eventually, I chose the nomadic path, which regularly takes me across state and international lines.

My decision to live a nomadic life also meant intentionally stepping away from licensed clinical work and the responsibilities and regulatory requirements that come with it. Today, I offer life coaching, consultation, and spiritual care rather than psychotherapy.

So, What’s the Difference?

Life Coaching

Life coaching is future focused and goal directed. The emphasis is on helping people identify where they want to go, what obstacles stand in the way, and what practical steps might move them toward the life they want to build.

In our work together, we might explore decision making, boundaries, values, purpose, confidence, discipline, relationships, lifestyle changes, or creating a life that feels more aligned with who you are.

A helpful analogy: Coaching is much like working with a personal trainer, whereas licensed counseling is more like working with a physical therapist. A trainer helps you pursue your goals, strengthen your abilities, and improve your performance. They educate, encourage, challenge, and support growth. A physical therapist, on the other hand, provides treatment for injuries, impairments, or conditions that require clinical care.

Similarly, coaching is designed for individuals who are seeking greater clarity, effectiveness, confidence, or fulfillment in their lives. It focuses on personal growth, goal attainment, skill development, and creating meaningful change. Counseling, by contrast, is intended to assess and treat mental health conditions, emotional distress, and psychological symptoms that may significantly impact daily functioning.

As a Life Coach, I work with individuals who want to deepen self-awareness, strengthen their decision-making, pursue meaningful goals, and create a life that is more aligned with their values. While my background includes extensive training and experience in the mental health field, I am no longer practicing as a licensed therapist. As such, I do not provide mental health treatment, diagnose mental health conditions, or offer services intended to address serious psychological disorders or crises. Individuals seeking those services are best served within the licensed mental health system, where the appropriate clinical resources and support are available.

Consultation

Consultation is different still. When I consult, I am primarily sharing knowledge and perspective drawn from years of education and professional experience. The interaction is more instructional in nature. I may teach concepts, offer observations, explain research, or provide guidance within my areas of expertise.

The emphasis is on education rather than personal change work.

Licensed Counseling

Licensed counseling is a regulated healthcare profession. Licensed mental health professionals complete extensive education, supervised training, ongoing continuing education, and practice within ethical and legal standards established by their state’s licensing boards. Psychotherapy may involve the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions, depending on the professional’s training, credentials, and scope of practice.

If you are seeking diagnosis or treatment for a mental health disorder, or if you believe you need clinical care, I encourage you to connect with a licensed behavioral health professional in your area.

Why I Chose Coaching

After choosing a full time nomadic lifestyle, I intentionally stepped away from licensed clinical practice due to the impracticalities of multi-jurisdiction licensing. Rather than maintaining a healthcare role, I wanted the freedom to educate, teach, explore philosophy and spirituality, and support people as they pursue meaningful goals and intentional lives.

My work today draws from philosophy, wisdom traditions, spirituality, and decades of studying human behavior. It is informed by my past experience, but it is no longer licensed psychotherapy.

For me, this path reflects both my ethics and my values. I believe it is important to be transparent about what I do and what I do not do.

If that approach resonates with you, I would be honored to walk alongside you for part of your journey.
